space for the next generation

Plastron is here to make the growing NewSpace sector safer. We provide safety engineering advisory services and enhance engineering facilities for hazardous operations for clients in the UK and overseas.

driving research
in the space sector

There is a revolution in the space sector, with many start-ups entering the market to develop new technologies and deliver innovation at pace in a conventional and risk-averse sector.

At Plastron, our aim is to narrow the gap between the knowledge and wisdom of the conventional sector and the agility and pace of NewSpace. Our purpose is to ensure risks are mitigated, safety is never compromised and skills evolve in line with sector growth.

Plastron bridges the gap through evidence-led supply-chain evolution, advanced skills improvement and environmentally aligned technology development.

In collaboration with European Astrotech, Plastron established the Space industry Centre for Excellence in 2021, and provides the only practical skills development service for space engineers in launch and hazardous operations. Our clients include European primes, government and academia.

Our courses are best-in-class, drawing on over 40 years of launch operations by our team, and are recognised by our industry peers for enhancing safety knowledge in the complex area of launch and propulsion systems engineering. For students, these courses introduce critical practical capabilities and enhance employability.

The overview for our standard propulsion safety course is provided below.

The growth in new space hardware means more start-ups are getting involved, including academic spin-out. Whilst the innovation is proving rich in the sector, the skills for achieving it effectively and safely as well as minimising the generation of more space debris are paramount. To mitigate the range of risks associated with space hardware R&D, Plastron is developing the first, dedicated digital product R&D support platform, augmenting best-in-class risk management methods with skills development and targeted space standards compliance. Thus accelerating routes to market for new products in a cost-effective, commercially viable and safe manner.
